CULTURE & TRADITION
“Traditions touch us, they connect us, and they expand us.” — Rita Barreto Craig
FACILITATOR PROMPT:
Tradition is a complex and multifaceted concept that encompasses the transmission of customs, beliefs, practices, and knowledge passed down through generations within a culture, family, or social group. It serves as a vital link between the past, the present, and the future to help preserve and share the values, history, and identity of a particular group or society.
Traditions often involve rituals, ceremonies, celebrations, or other activities that foster a sense of continuity, belonging, and connection to the past. They play a crucial role in shaping our understanding of the world and our place within it while also providing a foundation for social cohesion and emotional well-being.
As a means of maintaining cultural heritage and strengthening social bonds, traditions offer us a lens through which to view the shared experiences, wisdom, and insights of those who came before us.
One of our favorite traditions at Footers has been our Year In Review activities. This month, we’d like to share with you the importance of building tradition within each of your unique company cultures through a reflective exercise.
EXERCISE:
Use the following worksheet to guide your discussion this month.
Have each person fill out the worksheet.
Go around and discuss each question with sharing from the group.
Capture the company-related questions on a whiteboard or post-it page for your records!
