Show Up Wholeheartedly
I’m out of town this week, enjoying some time away. I’ve found that opportunities for relaxation, reflection and adventure have always been important for my ability to show up wholeheartedly as a leader. During challenging times, it’s even more important to “get away” even if it is only a day or two. It can give you a better perspective on your current situation, recharge your internal battery, and provide natural opportunities to spend time in thought. I’m also grateful to have an incredible team that allows us to be away from the business and not have to worry. I’m proud of the leaders they have become and how they continue to grow through this crazy experience we are all dealing with. This week I wanted to share the leadership message that Jason Sutton, one of our Executive Chefs, shared with our team in our absence.
We are all dealing with the change in roles and responsibilities that this year has brought us. Throughout this time, try and think "process," not "position" about how you step up to the plate. Leadership is continual growth, not a title. It is about leading with others in ways that establish direction, create alignment, and build commitment. Rather than looking for someone else to be the leader, we need to ask ourselves: "What am I bringing to the leadership process?" "How can I better facilitate the process of effective leadership in my team or on this event?"
Both our personal and professional lives are weaved together at Footers and in this industry, and because of that, our lives do not default to specific times to fill us up, but rather specific experiences. So, try and remember to recognize those experiences and embrace them as each day brings new highs and new lows. Anyone, anywhere can make a positive difference as long as you let your heart lead your head.
*Each week I share a leadership message with our team and we are honored to share it with you via MIBE Tribe. MIBE (the acronym for Make It Better Everyday) Tribe delivers education on heart leadership and intentional culture building for the hospitality industry.
