Operational Excellence

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

– Aristotle

Prompt:

Think about what it takes to create operational excellence. To execute flawlessly ensuring that customers are thrilled with the end product, team members feel great about working together and what they accomplished, and costs are controlled to ensure the company continues to thrive. While the existence of systems and processes are important, the ability to follow and execute on them is what makes the difference between great companies and average companies. And it takes a group of committed and dedicated team members to make that happen on a consistent basis.

Discussion:

This month we encourage you to have a discussion with your team about how you can continue to ensure operational excellence for your company.

You can either ask these questions all at the same time and have your team members write down their answers, or ask one question at a time and discuss them individually before moving on to the next question.

Questions

  • What area of my job can I improve in the most?

  • How can I eliminate or limit mistakes in my job?

  • Do we have any processes or procedures that are not always followed? Why not?

  • Are there systems in place that could be improved? How?

  • What can I personally do to exceed our customer’s expectations?

At the end of the discussion go around and ask everyone for their top takeaway from the meeting or even better, what they will commit to doing after the meeting.
