You Can’t Afford Not to Grow

Years ago, I had the opportunity to invest in my own growth. The timing couldn’t have been worse. Our business was in a rough spot: quality issues, tension within the team, and serious financial strain. We were barely staying afloat.

I remember sitting at my desk one evening, staring at the numbers and questioning how we’d make payroll, wondering if I could really justify the investment in myself. But something told me that I couldn’t afford not to.

Fast forward a year, and the difference was night and day. The company was healthier, our culture was stronger, and most importantly, I was leading from a different place with more clarity, confidence, and creativity. That’s when I realized: it’s even more important to invest in growth and development when you’re struggling.

Tough times pull us into the weeds. We focus on the next crisis, the next bill, the next problem to fix. Our vision narrows, and we stop looking up. Investing in growth pulls us back into the big picture. It expands our thinking, sharpens our decision-making, and reminds us that the current challenge is just one chapter, not the whole story.

I’ll admit, I struggle to ask for help. But every time I’ve humbled myself enough to do it, I’ve discovered that people aren’t judging me; they’re rooting for me. Growth happens when we open ourselves up to new ideas, new perspectives, and yes, the support of others.

I know times are uncertain for many right now. And it’s easy to think, “I’ll invest when things calm down.” But that’s exactly when growth matters most.

That’s why we created the MIBE Summit, a space to reconnect, recharge, and reimagine how you lead. You might think you can’t afford to attend, but if you’re in a season of challenge, I’d argue you can’t afford not to. Because when you invest in your growth, you don’t just change your outlook, you change your outcomes.

The Coach — This guy is easily the best-dressed due at the office. Anthony is also the only gentleman who wears a suit in the office, so it comes as no surprise. In addition to dressing well, he’s a master of organizational management. And Excel spreadsheets. If there’s anyone who can get you excited about pivot tables, it’s him! Although he studied business and marketing at the University of Oregon, Anthony received his Ph.D. in running a company at the School of Hard Knocks. As early as he can remember, Anthony was involved in the family business. And now, after years of experience in the good, the bad, and the ugly, he knows how to handle any situation. His leadership, patience, and desire to make those around him better is why we call him The Coach.
