The Grass is Greener: A Guest Post
I’m out of town this week so please enjoy this guest post from our
Sales Coordinator, Tabitha Hossfeld!
It is hard to believe that we are two years from the start of what would end up shaking the entire world and I cannot help but reflect on all the silver linings that the pandemic has provided. Last week, the Footers Family went on our 6th Annual Vacation to Isla Mujeres, Mexico. I have no words to describe the team that I am surrounded with and the endless support that they provide. It is a stark contrast to the environment I was working in pre-pandemic. An environment where everyone was told they are replaceable, and the motto was “the grass isn’t greener on the other side”.
Now that I have spent time in a new environment where there is the space for everyone to grow and be a part of something spectacular, I feel very fortunate. I also feel the responsibility that I have in this moment to take the opportunity and challenge myself to grow.
I have struggled for years with confidence and seeing myself as a leader. After doing some work at the Heart Leadership Workshop last month, I discovered that this lack of confidence comes from my fear of not living up to my true potential. Being one of the few members of my family to attended college, I have felt an immense pressure to make a difference with the opportunities that I have been given. I have always been interested in many things, and pretty dang good at a lot of them, but never felt that I had found my true calling. I have been surrounded by fear that I made the wrong choices and trying to find every fault of my past life and decisions.
Recently, I came across these words by James Wedmore and it made me realize that we should not be sad to leave the past behind. “A leader is one who operates from a vision of a future that wasn’t going to happen without them. They live from that place. They become that future now. They have more faith in the desired future than the unwanted future. The other option is to live in fear. Fear is putting your faith in a future you don’t want to have happen.”
It is time to stop giving power to our fears. This energy is only reinforcing all the negative outcomes that we are so scared to see come to life. To be a true leader we not only need to recognize our weaknesses but embrace them. Those weaknesses are what bring us to the vulnerable moments that create personal growth and inspire those around us. It is those vulnerable moments that bring a team together and pushes us all to accomplish greatness.
Being a part of the Footers Family I know that I am exactly where I need to be, and this team is capable of amazing things that will impact so many people. Thank you Footers for showing me that the grass is not only greener, it’s a white sandy beach and endless cocktails with some of the best people on the planet.
