Celebrate and mibe!

With the fast-paced nature of our lives and constant pursuit of what’s next, I always appreciate finish lines that allow us to take stock of where we’ve been, where we are and where we are going.  In our final meeting of 2022 at Footers, I encouraged our team to take some time before the end of the year for reflection.  Specifically, I wanted them to think about five areas of their lives and celebrate what they had accomplished in each of those areas.

Individual Professional Accomplishment – It’s natural to feel a part of our identity is wrapped up into what we do professionally.  We spend a lot of time at work, we should take pride in what we accomplish there and celebrate our contributions to the world.

Team Professional Accomplishment – A sense of belonging is important for our mental and emotional health.  When we recognize that we are part of something bigger than ourselves and that we helped accomplished something we couldn’t have done on our own, it adds purpose to our lives.

Personal Accomplishment – While I acknowledge that work is part of our identity, I want to reiterate that it is not all of it.  Who we are should also be made up of what we do when we are not at work.  Hobbies, experiences, learning and adventures are just a few of the ways we can enhance our sense of self and expand our identity and zest for life.

Relationship Accomplishment – Relationships are the currency that allows us to have a meaningful life. When we evaluate the impact that we have on others and the impact they have on us, we reflect on the people we surround ourselves with and the bonds that
make us who we are.

Health Accomplishment – If we don’t take care of ourselves then we have no hope of accomplishing any of the above. Whether mental, physical or emotional, our health is essential to our overall well-being. Making time to focus on our health is critical and recognizing those accomplishments provides motivation and momentum to keep positive healthy habits flowing.

Whether you love or loathe New Year’s Resolutions, we can all agree that the end of the year provides a natural opportunity for us to close the door on one chapter and set intentions for the next. As you reflect on your accomplishments from 2022 in these five areas, I also encourage you to think about how you will “mibe” these areas in 2023.  If you scan ahead to one year from today - Where will you be? How will you have grown? What will be different? What will you have improved? Our conviction around mibe is: “There is always more to learn and room to improve.” It’s not necessarily about where you are on your journey, it’s about the direction you’re heading.  We can all make progress if we embrace a growth mindset and set intentions for where we want to be. A growth mindset doesn’t judge what you know, but instead celebrates what there is to learn. And when we can do this, it leads to a richer and more fulfilling life.

As 2023 comes to end, I’m completing three years of “mid-week mibe messages”. Thank you for your readership, support and allowing me to inspire you and your teams. I am truly honored. Wishing you a wonderful 2023 filled with purpose, incredible experiences and plenty of “mibing.”
