Month 1
LEADERSHIP & CULTURE
Setting the stage for success, personal values, and the current state of our culture.
PRE-WORK
Here is messaging to send to your participants prior to meeting. Feel free to modify to fit your personality:
In advance of our first monthly “MIBE Meeting,” please complete the value exercise attached here. Bring your sheet to our meeting on _________ and be prepared to share your values and answers with the group. The more transparency and heart we individually bring to this assignment, the more we will all get out of this exercise as a team, so please be thoughtful, honest and genuine with your responses.
AGENDA
Intro from facilitator (2-5 min)
The Why: Use this opportunity to communicate with your team as one group. It’s powerful for them to hear the same message together and a great opportunity to recognize participants in front of their peers.
The How: Choose the things that are most relevant for your company to go over.
Suggestions:
• Welcome – Reinforce your mission/vision/values – Why do you exist as a company?
• Announcements
• Celebrations
Centering Exercise (5 min)
The Why: This exercise helps everyone to be present and focus their attention on the meeting. The quick-fire questions keep participants on their toes and forces them to think about what they’re feeling right now.
The How: Go around the room and have everyone complete the sentence one at a time. As the facilitator, you should go first. You can reverse the order of who responds after each question if you want to mix it up. Remind participants that this is meant to be fairly quick and their first thought is often their best thought, so don’t overthink it and go with what pops into their head right away.
Examples:
• Today I’m feeling _________
• I’m excited about _________
• I need to let go of _________
Video from MIBE® (7-10 min)
The Why: Anthony will provide an intro to the topic and give more information about the overall program. Each month, educational and inspirational information will be shared through this method. The video should make your job as the facilitator easier so you are not responsible for having to “teach” the lesson.
The How: Use the video below. It will be helpful for you to view it prior to the meeting. You will just need to be prepared to show it on a screen to your team. We recommend testing ahead of time to help avoid streaming/buffering/internet issues!
Discussion (45-60 min)
The Why: This is the opportunity for the group to share, collaborate and build trust. Ultimately, the goal of these meetings is to move the people in your organization forward as leaders and improve your overall culture.
The How: As the facilitator it is very important that you seek participation from everyone at the meeting and that you create space for people to be open, honest and vulnerable. We will provide you with the content each month, it’s your job to facilitate the discussion around that content. For this month, start by handing out the post-it notes.
1) Setting the ground rules for these meetings (10-15min)
Start a list on your own prior to the first meeting with your expectations, present that to the group and seek their feedback and agreement that they will abide by those rules. After you go over your rules, ask participants to write on one post-it note: One thing I need from the group during these meetings, and on a second post-it note: One thing that will get in the way. Use one sheet of your large post-it poster and write your rules (if you’ve already established them) on the top, then write: “What I need from the group is” and “What will get in the way” on each side of the poster. Call on people to come up to the front of the room and share what they need and what will get in the way, then have them stick their notes onto the corresponding side of your post-it poster.
OUR RULES AT FOOTERS:
Be Respectful
Be Open and Honest
Be Constructive
Be Present
Don’t use what is discussed during this meeting against each other
2) Value Exercise (25-45min)
Have each person share their two values and the answers to the two questions. “What is an example of a time where you lived into this value?” and “What does this value mean to you?” You can either call on people or ask for volunteers, but make sure everyone participates. It will most likely take about 3-5 minutes per person. For larger groups, you may want to split into small groups of 5-7. If you do that, make sure to come back together as a group and have everyone simply share their two values. As the facilitator, you may need to ask follow-up questions if you find the answers are surface level. A couple of suggestions would be: “Tell us more about why that value stood out over others” or “When in your life do you think this value rose to the top?” or “Can you think of other times in your life when you were living into this value?” It can also be good for you to add some commentary if you can think of an example of a time where that team member was living into their values.

Recap Video from MIBE® (5 min)
The Why: Anthony will close the meeting and summarize the content with an inspirational message. This is also our opportunity to share our post-meeting action items for participants.
The How: You will need to queue up the second video below. Again, it will be helpful for you to view it prior to the meeting and we recommend testing to help avoid streaming/buffering/internet issues!
For this meeting, you will need to pass out a MIBE gratitude card to each person. We also recommend you close the meeting after you play the video and share your gratitude for everyone’s time and any highlights that stood out.
