COMPANY DEADLINES & HOLDING YOUR TEAM ACCOUNTABLE
“Leaders inspire accountability through their ability to accept responsibility before they place blame.”
— Courtney Lynch
FACILITATOR PROMPT:
Workplace accountability is arguably one of the more important, yet difficult concepts to manage as leaders. Accountability means showing up and trying your best to accomplish the things you need to do. It’s about taking personal responsibility for your work and trusting your teammates. It should be something practiced by everyone in an organization, and as leaders, it's our job to ensure that it is working. But it's not always easy to feel like you're leading with your heart if you are constantly having to reprimand teammates for not meeting deadlines or falling short. High-performing teams hold themselves accountable to meet deadlines and are clear and concise when explaining to their teammates why those deadlines are important. Take some time this month to review your current company deadlines and ask your team which ones are still relevant, which ones are most important to them, and what new deadlines they would like to see implemented.
EXERCISE:
Use this time to open up a discussion about your company's current deadlines
What deadlines are most important in order for you to get your job done? (These could be external as well pertaining to customers or vendors)
Why are the deadlines for your department important – how do they impact your workflow?
What, if any, deadlines potentially need to be adopted for us all to work better together?
WRAP-UP:
Have everyone go around and speak to what they will strive to do personally this month to make sure they are respecting the company's deadlines.
